As many blogposts and newspaper articles have mentioned this year, the University of Virginia's Football team was to be a "New Era" in 2010 brought on by new Head Coach Mike London and a new playing style on both sides of the ball. After the first three games, the Wahoo hopeful were very confident that their team might actually be a decent contender in the ACC. This idea was brought to the test today as the Cavaliers faced off against the Florida State Seminoles, who were the pre season favorites to win the ACC.
The rain finally subsided and it was a beautiful day for football. Everyone got on their white shirts and stood on the relative moist hill to watch this game. I personally believed the 'Hoos would have the skill to beat the formidable opponent as long as they didn't make mistakes. Unfortunately, though, mistakes were a common occurrence for both offense and defense. Second Year Quarterback Marc Verica threw two interception on the day (one while marching toward the endzone with some momentum). Our offense also had one lost fumble on the day. I was surprised to see our defense give up so many big runs after being very stout against running backs so far this season. The Final score was FSU34-UVA14...
It is clear that the entire community was getting very energized by this team and it brought them together for one common theme. This was shown today by a stadium full of people all wearing white in unison to support the team. Although after the Wahoos were down 27-0 at the half many fans left and the optimistic together community was no more. I still personally believe that we have the skill to be a contender but our team must learn to not take stupid personal foul penalties or throw stupid passes when we have momentum down the field. After four games our record stands at 2-2 (.500), I believe if we use this game to teach our team valuable lessons we can salvage the season and claim a decent Bowl Bid in December (even if it is the Midas Car Care Bowl). I conclude by saying "That Good Ole Song of WaHooWa..."
